1. ESS Aggregator System

- Develop the Aggregator EMS algorithm

The algorithm will calculate the input data by load forecasting, renewable generation forecasting, Energy Storage System (ESS) status estimation. Then, it determine the optimal ESS operating schedule and also define the availabe ESS energy to participate in the energy trade market. The algorithm will be the coordinated control if ESS is installed with renewable energy generation. It also needs to consider the severe weather event to prepare the power system failure.

The ESS needs to verify their participation in the energy trade market if they don't affect the power system operation negatively. For this purpose, the Distribution Management System (DMS) needs to communicate with Aggregator EMS. Furthermore, DMS is also able to ask aggregator EMS to supply the ESS power for power system operation.

3. Optimal microgrid design

The Distributed Energy Resources Customer Adoption Model (DER-CAM) is used to determine the optimal size and type of distributed energy resources (DERs) and their operating schedules for a sample utility distribution system. Using the DER-CAM results, an evaluation is performed to evaluate the electrical performance of the distribution circuit if the DERs selected by the DER-CAM optimization analyses are incorporated. Results of analyses regarding the economic benefits of utilizing the optimal locations identified for the selected DER within the system are also presented.
